Vintage Symmar Lens Data

The Symmar was originally introduced in 1920. It is a 6-element, 4-group, symmetric design with a 70° angle of coverage. The Symmar lenses are "convertable". Like most large format lenses they are constructed with two cells which fit into the front and back of a shutter. By removing one of these cells and using only half the lens, the user can create a lens with substantially longer focal length. The resulting longer focal length lens will produce a softer image that can be useful for portrait photography.
